THREE Senegalese brothers embark on an eight-date UK tour which takes in Whitby this week.
Les Frères Guissé, one of Senegal’s finest musical exports, come from the Fouta Tooro area in the north of the country.
Djiby, Cheik and Aliou Guissé play “beautiful and sensitive music, well rooted in the traditions of West Africa, with poetic lyrics and close harmony singing, two acoustic guitars and a variety of percussion”, says promoter Ali Goodman.
The trio are “dead impressive … upfront, punchy and dynamic”, says fRoots magazine.
Les Frères Guissé can be seen at the Compass Club at the Coliseum in Whitby on Sunday.
