PLANS are well under way for Peasholm Park’s centenary celebrations next summer.
An all-day party will be held on Sunday June 24 to mark the milestone, with people invited to come and join in the fun.
The Friends of Peasholm Park have already started fundraising for the event and donations have been received from local businesses, including Fountain’s Court Holistic Hotel, Thai Manor Restaurant and the Ambassador Hotel.
Group chairman Christine Mark said: “Everyone’s really looking forward to the celebrations.
“It’s quite thrilling to think that the park is 100 years old, so we really want to celebrate in style.”
She added that events will be taking place in the park all summer during the build-up to the party itself.
On the night before, Saturday June 23, there will be a gig by Shadows Music.
There will also be concerts by the Spa Orchestra, which is also celebrating its 100th anniversary next year.
Helen Percival, of Scarborough Council’s parks and countryside department, said there are lots of things in the pipeline, including a Norwegian band day.
She added: “It’s such a special occasion, so we’re wanting to put on something good for everyone to enjoy.
“Lots of people have special memories of the park from when they were younger, of things like the Tree Walk and Naval Warfare, so we’re also thinking about setting up a memory book.”
The party will feature entertainment from dancers, martial arts groups, children’s activities and much more.
If you would like to be involved, either as a volunteer or by sponsoring the event, please contact Helen Percival on (01723) 374079.
• Peasholm Park Friends’ next open meeting will be held on Tuesday November 8, at Scarborough Bowls Centre, from 7pm to 9pm.
Everyone is welcome to attend.
