Appeal for new choir members

THE Scarborough Harmonic Male Voice Choir - now known as the Beckdene Singers - is appealing for new members.

The choir was formed in 1884 and once had more than 80 members but numbers declined in the 1980s and 1990s.

Chairman Pete Hemmingham said: “The choir is still in existence because there are assets still in the name of the choir and the repertoire of music, numbering over 200 pieces is still being kept by the remaining 10 members of the Beckdene Singers.

“Men who want to sing, and you don’t have to be able to read music, just hold a note and be willing to learn, should get in touch with the choir.”

Rehearsals will start on Tuesday September 27.
