Balancing your studies with work at one of the region’s biggest firms is no easy task.
But that is exactly what Yorkshire Coast College student Roxanne Mennell has done.
Roxanne is working as a maintenance apprentice at Senior Glass Systems in Hopper Hill Road, Eastfield.
Senior manufactures glazed units at its dedicated 40,000 sq ft facility in Scarborough.
In recent years it has invested heavily in new plant and machinery, including new delivery vehicles, a new heat soak oven and commercial furnace.
Michelle Damms, operations manager at Senior Glass Systems said: “Roxanne is working alongside two very experienced maintenance engineers and is learning the business from them.
“They are guiding her through her work.
“She carried out some work experience with us prior to coming back as an apprentice.
“She is a very bright young woman and has a great future ahead of her.”
After looking at the improvements it could make on the shop floor, Senior Glass then turned its attention online by investing in new material resource planning software. The new software, which went live earlier this year, is allowing Senior Glass to keep a tighter control on delivery dates. Going forward, Senior is planning to introduce a tracking system so that it will be possible to let customers know exactly how their order is progressing.
