Apprentices set to boost hospice funds

Table-topping apprentices from Scarborough engineering company Dale are powering ahead with their fund-raising for Saint Catherine’s Hospice.

Nine young employees from the Salter Road company have already raised more than £2,000 for the hospice.

And they will boost that when they take out collecting buckets during the Dale Power Solutions P1 Grand Prix of the Sea event off Scarborough this weekend.

Their fundraising is part of their efforts to be named the Apprentice Team of the Year in the Brathay Apprentice Challenge.

They recently discovered they were northern region winners and are on top of the eight finalists’ table with a 100 per cent score as they head towards the end of the competition.

It culminates in a weekend of Lake District challenges from July 6 to 8, when the winner will be announced.

For Dale the fundraising is also a continuation of long-standing support for Saint Catherine’s Hospice and marks a double celebration.

Dale Power Solutions is this year celebrating its 80th anniversary while Saint Catherine’s is marking 30 years of care.

Mark Carter, business support manager at Dale Power Solutions, said: “The connections between us go back a long way, with Leonard Dale being the founder of Dale and the first chair of trustees at the hospice, so it was natural that in our anniversary year we would also reinforce our support for Saint Catherine’s during its anniversary year.

“The apprentices are doing really well and as they reach the end of the Brathay Challenge we also look forward to them making a good contribution to Saint Catherine’s.”

Hospice fundraiser Penny Campbell said: “The apprentices have done fantastically well to be named northern regional winners with a 100 per cent record so far.

“We wish them continued success in the competition and are very proud that they have chosen us as their charity. We look forward to continuing to work with Dale and further strengthening the strong links we already have with the company.” Make a donation at
