Â£500 donation to help renovate old Scout hut

The money is to help the charity’s ongoing work in the Scarborough area, helping local community groups or those in need by reasons of age, ill health, disability, or financial hardship. The charity has a shop in Falsgrave Road which is run solely by volunteers, and which sells items such as clothes, shoes and toys to raise vital funds.

Construction at McCarthy and Stone’s planned Retirement Living development, Alder View Court, is now well underway. The donation follows a community appeal McCarthy and Stone made at the end of last year, which asked local charities and groups to apply for funding, as part of its ongoing commitment to the area.

Scarborough and Locals Together plan to put the money towards renovating a building owned by the Scouts Association which is used as a community hub by a number of different clubs and organisations within Scarborough.

Rosemary Forrest, trustee of SALT, said: “We are so grateful to McCarthy and Stone. Donations of this kind are extremely important to us. We are completely self-funded, so without the generosity of donors, our wonderful customers in the shop and other supporters we would not be able to carry out the important work we do to benefit those in the community who really need our help.

“One of our current projects is helping to renovate the building that the 2nd Earl of Londesborough’s Own (ELO) Scout Group use weekly. The building, owned by the Scout Association, is also used by other community groups and this contribution will help us to add a much needed disabled toilet block to the building.”

The new development of apartments on Newby Farm Road is designed exclusively for the over 60s. A sales launch event takes place on Thursday March 9 at the Ox Pasture Hall Hotel, where there will be presentations at 11am and 2pm.
