Arts group take centre stage at Cathedral

A SCARBOROUGH arts group is hoping to bring Ripon Cathedral to life with a UK premier this summer.

Arts development agency Create is one of the driving forces behind the unique arts performance.

Create is co-ordinating the UK premiere of How Like an Angel, a mix of circus skills and choral music, to be staged at Ripon Cathedral on July 19 and 20.

It will form part of the London 2012 Festival, a 12-week nationwide arts festival forming the climax of the four-year Cultural Olympiad.

Organisers say How Like an Angel will take the audience “on a contemplative theatrical experience, an interplay of music and physical movement, both intimate and beautiful”.

Create, the agency behind Scarborough events like Coastival, is delighted to be involved in the production.

Create director Wendy Clews said: “Ripon Cathedral is a striking, iconic building and provides the perfect, atmospheric backdrop to this unique performance.

“This promises to be a breath-taking performance and a highlight of the summer.”

The audience will walk around the cathedral to discover performances in the cathedral building including aerial performers soaring into the cathedral’s high open spaces.
