Attempted theft at Scarborough store sparks appeal

A CCTV appeal has been issued following an attempted theft where a man dropped two bottles of vodka and fled a store after being confronted by staff.

North Yorkshire Police have issued CCTV of a man they would like to speak to following an attempted theft in Marks and Spencer, in Scarborough town centre.

A man went to the alcohol section of the store, took two bottles of vodka valued at £20 each and put them inside his jacket.

A spokesperson for the force said: "He headed towards the exit, making no attempt to pay for the items.

"He was then challenged by member of staff and dropped the bottle of spirits before making off towards St Thomas Street."

The attempted theft happened at around 1.30pm on 13 March 2018.

Officers are asking members of the public to get in touch if they recognise the person in the image as they believe they will have information that will help the investigation.
