Authors licence to thrill at festival

Bestselling crime writer Mark Billingham is on the trail to Books by the Beach to meet pathologist Stuart Hamilton.

They’ll be talking forensics and felony with festival co-director Peter Guttridge, who also pens crime novels.

Books by the Beach runs from Wednesday April 26 to Monday May 1.

Mark, who began his career as actor and stand up comedian, is no stranger to the spotlight.

Most Popular

His has sold more than five million books. His Ton Thorne series starring David Morrissey has introduced him to new audiences and his latest novel Die of Shame is out in paperback on March 23.

Stuart’s day and night job is to perform autopsies in cases of suspicious death.

His tasks can range from standing in a ditch collecting maggots to standing in Crown Court giving expert evidence.

He has advised for many TV series including Midsomer Murders, New Tricks and Silent Witness.

Fact or fiction – discover which is stranger at on Monday 1 May in Scarborough Library Concert Hall at 3pm.

Earlier in the festival Louise Doughty and Erin Kelly share the stage.

Louise is author of Apple Tree Yard, adapted in a TV series for BBC with Emily Watson in the lead role of a scientist placing her life on the edge for a passionate affair with someone she hardly knows.

Louise will be talking about her latest work Black Water at the festival.

Erin is no stranger to TV adaptations herself as one of her early works, the Poison Tree was an ITV drama in 2013.

It was also a Richard and Judy Summer Read. Erin has written another four thrillers and official novel of the BAFTA awarding winning series Broachurch.

At the festival she’ll be introducing her new read He Said/She Said which has already received rave reviews.

The event will be hosted by critic and writer Barry Forshaw at Scarborough Library Concert Room on SaturdayApril April 29 at 3pm.

Other guests include actresses Denise Welch and Harriet Walter, reality TV star Vicky Pattison, novelists Joanna Trollope, Salley Vickers and Adele Parks and politician Alan Johnson.
