A SCARBOROUGH woman has put her knitting needles to good use by making clothes for premature babies.
Heather Lawrence created the tiny garments and presented them to staff at Scarborough Hospital’s premature baby unit.
“I heard from my friend that they needed some clothes so I did them a dozen little coats and hats,” Mrs Lawrence said yesterday afternoon.
“They’re not the sort of thing you can buy off the shelf. They’re just like little doll clothes.
“Everyone at the hospital was really grateful so I said I’d do them some more.
“Hopefully some other people might get involved and knit something for them as well.”
Mrs Lawrence, who has been knitting for several years, says making the clothes has been a way to use her hobby to benefit others.
She has also made clothes for St. Catherine’s Hospice in the past.
“I’ve got seven grandchildren, but they’re all grown up now,” she added. “I used to knit for them all the time.
“I can’t knit very big things anymore so this has been a nice way to help.”
