A candle lighting service is being held on Scarborough’s South Bay in memory of murdered teenager Michael Graham.

The memorial has been organised by Scarborough vicar, Rev Samantha Foster, as an all faith tribute to the teenager.

Friends, family, and anyone wishing pay their respects, are invited to join Rev Foster, and other church leaders, on the South Bay at 8pm tomorrow night.

The event follows the fatal stabbing of Michael Graham, known among friends as Angel, last Saturday night.

Rev Foster said: “I organise something called Sacred Space on the beach in the summer where people walking past can light a candle for anyone or any particular reason.

“I thought this weekend, on Sunday evening, we would do a special one for those who want to bring to mind the people who have been affected by the stabbings, and to give people a chance to get together and support each other.

“The main thing is that people feel supported by the churches during such a shocking time.”

Michael, 19, and a 17-year-old were stabbed during an incident near Olympia Leisure, in Foreshore Road, a week ago today.

A 16-year-old has been charged with murder and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and is due to appear at Leeds Crown Court on Tuesday.
