MISS Scarborough 2012 is settling back into university life after winning the coveted title on Saturday night.
Eleanor Hardie, 20, was chosen from 15 hopefuls during a ceremony at the Scarborough Fair Collection in Lebberston.
She is now set to represent Scarborough in the Miss England final at the end of June.
Eleanor said she never expected to win and has had a great reaction over the weekend from family and friends.
She said: “Everyone was really surprised. My family are all pleased and really excited about it and my friends were quite shocked, because not all of them knew I’d entered.
“One of my tutors had seen me in the paper though and wished me luck.”
Eleanor added that she is looking forward to attending events in Scarborough during the coming year and becoming more involved in the community.
She is also excited about the Miss England final, but admits she is quite nervous.
Eleanor said: “It’s being held in Leicester, which is where I’m from, so hopefully quite a few people will be able to come along and support me.”
She is currently in her first year of an environmental sciences degree and is hoping to go into a career in teaching.
Eleanor said: “The course is hard, but it’s good fun, and I love being in Scarborough.
“It’s so nice being by the beach and the course is quite outdoorsy.”
As part of her course, Eleanor is also working towards an open water diving qualification.
She has been doing practice dives in a swimming pool so far and will be doing an open water dive in Pontefract this week.
Eleanor is also looking forward to going to the gym, as she won a year’s subscription to Compass Gym as part of her prize.
She won a £500 stay at the Cliffemount Hotel in Runswick Bay, a gown from Desire in Filey, a year of hairdressing for public appearance from Shadow, beauty treatments from Spangle, a photo portfolio from Hollier photographers of Filey, sash and crown from the Scarborough Evening News and a bouquet from Natalilies of Hunmanby.
Eleanor will go to the Miss England final on June 25 and 26 at The Athena in Leicester.
Fellow Miss Scarborough finalist Stephanie Atha scooped a place in the semi-final after winning the text vote and being crowned Miss Popularity, with 899 votes.
