New boy Ryan Blott is aiming high after signing for Pickering Town.
Blott has joined the NCEL Premier Division club alongside fellow former Scarborough Athletic striker Tony Hackworth, who arrives as player-coach.
When the pair last played together in the division they helped fire Boro to the title with 55 goals between them.
This is something that Blott is looking to emulate this time around.
He said: “It is a new challenge for me, but one that I’m looking forward to.
“I have never set myself any targets in a season, but I’ll be very disappointed if I don’t score a lot of goals.
“Obviously I know a lot of the lads, I’ve played with the assistant-manager Denny Ingram for years, the same with Tony.
“The last full season I had with Tony, we won promotion from this division and formed a great partnsership, which we will be looking to recreate.
“If you look through the squad as a whole we should be competing at the top of the table.
“That is what this club wants, so I don’t see why we shouldn’t be the case.”
Once Blott met Marshall, it didn’t take him long to make the decision to drop down a level from the Evo-Stik North.
He added: “I had spoken to Scarborough’s manager Steve Kittrick, but once I heard the amibition that Paul Marshall had for Pickering Town, my decision was made.
“This is a club that want to go places, they want to be up there. If they were happy with the top half then there was no way I was coming, but Pickering want to have a go.
“I don’t see it as a drop down because I know all about the NCEL.
“I know thet the teams at the top of the table are no different from those clubs in the Evo-Stik North, and that is where we want to be.”
