Coastguards and the RNLI were called to assist the Scarlett Lou this morning after it began taking on water.

Despite the best efforts as fast as water was being pumped out it was coming in.

Deputy Station manager for Scarborough Coastguard Tony Dyer told The Scarborough News: "It must have been a major breach as it was going down pretty quickly.

"It will become a marine salvage operation as once the tide comes back in it will be submerged completely.

"It will either have to be brought to the surface using flotation devices or a diver will have to go down and make repairs so the water can be pumped out at low tide.

"There was no pollution caused by the incident, but counter pollution booms were placed around the vessel as a precautionary measure in case any fuel started leaking from the fuel tanks."
