SCARBOROUGH man Bob Heaps hit the road on a UK-long cycle ride in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.

The 54-year-old cycled from John O’Groats in Scotland to Land’s End, Cornwall, over nine days, clocking up just over 100 miles a day. He raised a total of £600.

He said: “It was a wonderful experience, it was hard work, I met a lot of people and it was a very well organised event. It was really good seeing bits of the country I’d never been to before, and doing it on a bike I had the chance to see a lot more.”

John has now caught the bike bug and is looking forward to pedalling through Cambodia and Vietnam at the end of this month.

Michaela Crosthwaites, community fundraiser for North Yorkshire, East Riding and Humber Alzheimer’s Society, said: “It’s thanks to support from fundraisers like Bob that we are able to provide care to families suffering from dementia and carers, so it’s going to a brilliant cause.”
