Fire engines are currently at the scene of an acid spill.

A drum of corrosive acid fell off a HGV on the A64, causing a chemical spill on a lay-by near the West Knapton roundabout.

A North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson confirmed there were no injuries.

A specialist support unit is on the scene to assist three engines in securing the canister.

“The chemical spill itself was quite minor, and we’ve been able to isolate the drum,” said the spokesperson, adding that the road is still open.
