A bid by campaigners to have Scarborough’s Futurist Theatre listed has been rejected.
The recommendation by English Heritage to not give listed status has been rubber stamped by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, leaving Futurist supporters angry.
Campaigner Patricia David said they are now planning to appeal the decision and have 28 days to do so.
The group is being supported in the appeal process by The Theatres Trust.
Patricia said: “It’s a nasty mess. We’ve got a massive fight on our hands.”
The demolition of the Futurist is up for debate at a council meeting on February 27.
