Apprentices offered new course in barbering

SCARBOROUGH apprentices are celebrating World Hairdressing Day and World Beauty Day.

The international commemorative day is on Monday, and to celebrate it The Academy Hair and Beauty is offering a new course.

The local hair and beauty training company, based in Norton, is offering students and salon owners the chance to study a City and Guilds apprenticeship course in Barbering.

One of the students on the barbering course is David Sullivan who is continuing his training after completing the NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing at The Academy.

He is studying with apprentices from other local salons and two colleagues from Shane’s Hair Studio in Scarborough.

Lindsay Burr, Academy director, said: “This six month barbering qualification is not offered anywhere else locally and first indications show that there is a real demand for the course.

“Our aim is to offer qualifications that will make apprentices job ready for the hair and beauty industry.

“The Academy is delighted to work in partnership with four Ryedale schools, Scarborough Sixth Form College, Whitby Community College and more than 70 salons in the region.”
