SCARBOROUGH catering students have been offered the chance to learn their trade at a new hotel.
The Yorkshire Coast College students will take on work placements at Raithwaite Hall in Whitby, which is set to open for the first time in October.
They will split their learning time between the hotel itself and the classroom, giving them a real-world taste of what they have been studying.
The students are set to play a crucial role preparing the cuisine for the grand opening, and Darren Iddon, executive chef at Raithwaite Hall, said the most promising students could be offered permanent jobs in the future.
He added: “The students that are taking part already have an enormous amount of talent, and I have no doubt they will go on to be great chefs.”
Bonita Hodge, principal of the college, said: “It is very exciting for our students to be getting this opportunity to work at Raithwaite Hall as they prepare for their opening.
“We understand the importance of giving our students the chance to train in realistic environments.
“I’m sure this will be a real benefit to our students and will stand them in good stead for the future.”
Three apprentices will be part of the hospitality team working at the hotel at its opening.
