Fight to save shops grows

SCARBOROUGH’s Save Our Shops campaign is growing after inspiring a local craft company to sign up.

The campaign was launched by the Scarborough Chamber of Trade last month in a bid to raise the profile of local shops.

Craft Inspiration, in Newborough, have now signed up to support the Chamber’s bid to encourage shoppers to use their high street stores.

Shop owners Sharron and John Mann were keen to back the campaign and put up the SOS poster in the shop.

Mr and Mrs Mann, whose business sells card making products, wedding stationery and personalised napkins, said: “We have been thinking about joining the Chamber for some time now and seeing the pro-active campaign they have launched to Save Our Shops prompted us to do it.

“We have both a traditional shop and trade online, but we very much value the walk-in trade the shop brings and, like the rest of the Chamber, don’t want to see the high street disappear.”

The SOS campaign is the brainchild of Chris Eborall, joint owner of Scarborough Music in Aberdeen Walk, who teamed up with the Chamber to spread the message.

Posters, badges and stickers will soon be available for all 60-plus Chamber members to display. Chamber president Janet Jefferson said: “We are very pleased to welcome Craft Inspiration to the Chamber. They join a growing number of local businesses who benefit from being part of a growing voice in Scarborough.

“The feedback we have had so far to the SOS campaign has been very positive and we now plan to roll it out.”
