Novel idea wins Robert £1k

A SCARBOROUGH author has been rewarded by one of his peers after writing his latest novel.

Earlier this year, Bob Jackman offered £1,000 to encourage aspiring authors at Scarborough Writers’ Circle to write and publish a book before the end of December.

Member Robert Marshall, of Elmville Avenue, penned “Ravenscar or The Town That Never Was” in just under a year and was presented with a cheque by Mr Jackman at the group’s annual party in Allatt House.

The book is aimed at teenagers and features a murder, bank robbery and jewellery theft.

Mr Jackman, who is enjoying success on Kindle with two of his own books, Merchant Navy: Heroes and Halfwits, and Diverse Verses, is chairman of the Scarborough Writers’ Society, which meets on alternate weeks in the Red Lea Hotel.

Mr Marshall, a retired baker and confectioner, is a member of both groups, demonstrating his commitment to writing.
