THE next phase of The Sands development in North Bay will create more than 100 jobs in Scarborough, it has been revealed.

Detailed plans for the multi-million pound scheme, which includes a new year-round water park, family restaurant and holiday homes on the former Atlantis, Mr Marvels and Kinderland sites, have now formally been submitted to Scarborough Council on behalf of Benchmark Leisure.

They reveal that around 60 jobs are expected to be made available at the water park, 35 jobs for the holiday accommodation and 10 jobs at the family restaurant.

The report states: “The water park element of the scheme is integral to the redevelopment of The Sands and to the delivery of wider aspirations for the tourism economy in Scarborough.

“It replaces the defunct Atlantis water park attraction at Peasholm Gap thereby maintaining the presence of a visitor attraction and retaining the holiday resort characteristics of the North Bay.

“The first element of the development to be brought forward is expected to be the water park, with construction expected to commence in late 2013. Following this, the remainder of the development is expected to come forward in a staggered process over the next few years.”

The water park will include an indoor wave pool, a children’s pool, a tornado water slide, an outdoor family pool, a lazy river and a spa.

The Mr Marvels site is set to feature the proposed Bayview Holiday Home village, while the Kinderland site will host 29 holiday lodges.

A further 492 car parking spaces will be made available on a grass overspill parking area in Burniston Road.
