YOUNGSTERS from Scarborough Sea Cadets travelled to York to take part in an annual district five-a-side football competition.

The cadets who took part were a mixture of senior girls, aged from 12 to 18, and mixed juniors, from 10 to 12.

The competition featured teams from Hull, York, Filey and Scarborough.

For the first time in many years both teams won through to represent the Scarborough unit in the forthcoming, much tougher “area competition”, which covers the rest of Yorkshire, Humberside and stretches south to the Fens. Julie Davies, officer in charge of Scarborough Sea Cadets, said she was very proud of the youngsters’ efforts.

She added: “It was great to hear the cadets singing their hearts out on the journey back.”

Scarborough Sea Cadets meet at the hall in East Sandgate and are currently raising funds for much-needed renovations to the building.
