Organisers of this year’s Armed Forces Day In Scarborough are looking for a troop of volunteers to lend a hand during the annual event.
More than 15,000 people are expected to gather on the Foreshore for the town’s fourth Armed Forces Day on Saturday, 23 June.
Among the attractions will be Her Majesty’s Royal Marine Band Scotland, as well as Royal Navy demonstrations and a host of stalls, events and activities for all the family.
Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks, including collecting for charities supported by the event Help for Heroes, Royal British legion, SSAFA, Forces Help and Combat Stress – as well as stewarding and marshalling duties.
Brenda Horton, who is organising charity collections on the day, said: “Obviously we want to raise as much money as we can for the charities to support the amazing work they do.
“If people can even only spare an hour or two, it would be an enormous help – we need at least 50 charity collectors to help out on the day.”
Kathryn Duck, who is organising marshalling duties, added: “I’m looking for around 15 volunteers to help out with stewarding duties which includes giving out programmes and event information to the public.
“We will also need marshals to accompany the bands and the Armed Forces Day parade.”
There are many other ways people can show their support all year round including:
• attending homecoming parades
• volunteer as an adult instructors with cadet forces
• support a service charity such as the local branch of the Royal British Legion, SSAFA, Forces Help or Help for Heroes.
• join more than one million Armed Forces Day Facebook supporters.
People who are interested in helping out on the day can send an email to Brenda at email@example.com or ring 01723 370845; while Kathryn can be reached at either firstname.lastname@example.org or 07732 064678.
