North Yorkshire’s very own Captain Jack Sparrow will be swashbuckling his way into Scarborough and Whitby later this month.

The dead-ringer lookalike for Johnny Depp’s Pirates of the Caribbean character is inviting local pirates of all ages to join in the fun at this year’s hugely popular Yorkshire Coast Homes “Through the Keyhole” events – and if you don’t fancy being a pirate for the day why not come along as a mermaid or a sea monster?

There will be prizes galore for the best fancy dress costumes!

Other piratical highlights at this year’s flagship events will include interactive entertainment from family favourites Frankie ‘Dazzle’ Dean and SHE Productions, while a whole host of creepies, crawlies and creatures will also be on display.

Face-painters will be on board, together with a pirate-themed craft crew on the captain’s table.

This year’s events, which promise to be bigger and better than ever, will be supported by the excellent Stephen Joseph Theatre Outreach Team, and also by the Illegal Money Lending

Team who will be offering advice on how to avoid the real-life unscrupulous loan-sharking pirates who operate across our area.

The team’s Head of Service Tony Quigley said: “It’s good to see proceeds of crime money being used to fund valuable projects in the Scarborough and Whitby area.

"Illegal Money Lending is an awful crime which leaves victims living in fear and our partners at Yorkshire Coast Homes will be helping us to reinforce the message that they should be

avoided at all costs. If you or someone you know has been a victim of a loan shark, please call us in confidence on our hotline which is manned by an investigator 24/7 on 0300 555

Yorkshire Coast Homes community involvement officer, Stephanie Lake said: “The YCH Flagship days are really growing in popularity, with attendance numbers growing steadily year on year. We’re sure that this year’s Pirate themed days, delivered in partnership with C&P Events, will attract even more people to both the Scarborough and Whitby sessions.

"We can guarantee a fabulous day out for all the family and everyone is invited!"

The Scarborough event will be held at the Spa (Ocean Room and Promenade Lounge) on Wednesday October 26 and the Whitby event will be at Whitby Leisure Centre on Friday

October 28. Both events run from 11am until 3pm.

Free packed lunches are available for the children of Yorkshire Coast Homes residents – who can book by calling 0345 065 56 56
