Cash Converters, in Northway, will close its doors for the final time on Wednesday.

It follows the closure of the firm’s Bridlington store earlier this month.

A spokesman for Cash Converters said that staff would be relocated where possible but Scarborough’s remote location would make that difficult.

He said: “The decision was taken following a review of the entire business last year to move away from some of our high street operations.

“Scarborough and Bridlington were put up for sale but, unfortunately, no-one came forward to buy them so we have had to take the decision to close them both.

“Where possible we always look to relocate staff but now that the closest store to Scarborough is Middlesbrough or York it’s not really been possible in this case.

“We stopped buying items on lease 28 days ago and all agreements will be carried over.

People who have pawned items with us will still be able to make payments over the phone or online and once they have repaid the full amount their goods will be posted to them.

“There will be no closing down sale as the stock will be sent to other stores to be sold there.”

He was unable to say how many staff would be made unemployed as a result of the closure.

The Bridlington branch was closed on June 4.
