Castle Howard to host motor show and classic car rally
The new venue of one of the region's biggest motor shows has been given the official seal of approval '“ by the man who will decide which cars are the stars of this year's event at Castle Howard, near Malton, on Father's Day (June 19).
Geoff Hill, who was involved with motor engineering most of his working life, has judged the entries for The Yorkshire Post Motor Show and Classic Car Rally for the past five years.
Mr Hill, from Tickhill, near Doncaster, said: “It is very special in that it brings together real enthusiasts – not just people who invest in motor cars but people who really care about cars.
“I think Castle Howard is a great choice of a venue. In my mind it will continue to be a very successful event and will only grow as a result of going there.”
Hundreds of classic cars and vintage vehicles will descend on the grounds of the North Yorkshire estate for the show.
People can compete in a number of categories: American Car, Kit Car, Military/Commercial, Pre-war, Post-war, Sports Car and Motorcycle.
Mr Hill, 76, had his first classic car, a 1936 Austin Seven, when he was aged 19.
It is the first time Castle Howard, which has been immortalised in both small and big screen versions of Evelyn Waugh’s celebrated novel Brideshead Revisited, will have hosted the show which is taking Best of British as its theme.
Exhibitors and visitors can also enjoy a full programme of events in the entertainment arena throughout the day.
