CCTV images released of wanted Scarboro' sex offender
North Yorkshire Police have released CCTV images as they renew their urgent appeal to find wanted Scarborough sex offender Barry Gibson.
Gibson was jailed for life in 2000 on a number of sex offences and was released from prison on licence on 26 November 2015, subject to a number of conditions.
Before he was jailed he lived in Herdborough Road, Eastfield, Scarborough.
On May 6, Gibson, who was living in the Boroughbridge Road area of York, failed to comply with a condition of his licence and an order was issued to recall him to prison.
The last sighting of him was on Thursday May 5 – the day before he breached his court order – outside the taxi rank near York Minster.
He was last seen wearing dark trousers and a jacket which is red on the top half and a dark colour on the bottom half. He was carrying a JD Sports bag over his shoulder.
Detective Chief Inspector Allan Harder of York Serious Crime Team, said: “I believe that members of the public hold the key to Gibson’s current whereabouts. I am appealing to public transport workers and passengers, taxi drivers, bus drivers, as well as hotel and guest house owners across the Yorkshire region and beyond, to please call us if they believe they have seen Gibson.
“It is vital that he is returned to custody as soon as possible.”
Extensive police enquiries have been carried out and will continue until Gibson is found, including liaison with neighbouring forces.
To assist the police enquiries, anyone who has seen Gibson or knows of his current whereabouts is asked to contact the police, please do not approach him, but call 999 immediately.
Gibson has connections across the Yorkshire region, in particular North and West Yorkshire.
