Chance for poetry fans to win £1,000

SCARBOROUGH poets are being given the chance to enter a national poetry competition and win a publishing contract or £1,000.

The Poetry Rivals 2011 deadline has been extended to August 31.

The competition invites poets from all walks of life to send Poetry Rivals one poem that they have written.

Selected poems will be chosen to be published in a special anthology and the top 100 poets will be invited to the slam final to perform their poem to be in with a chance of winning.

The over 18s category winner will receive a publishing contract with Bonacia Ltd or £1,000. The under 18 winners (split into two age groups) will receive top-of-the-range laptops.

The Slam Final will take place in April next year in Peterborough.

Poems can be on any subject and in any style, only one entry per person is permitted and there is no line limit
