Organisers have launched the 37th annual Rotary Crown Tavern Charity Walk and are encouraging people to sign up.
The walk will be taking place on Sunday May 4 - giving walkers the May Day Bank Holiday afterward to rest up afterwards.
Walk organiser Jane Moment said: “There are two walks so you can choose what challenge you would like to give yourself.
“The long walk begins at Hawsker Village Hall at 9.30am and follows the old Scarborough to Whitby railway line finishing at the Crown Tavern in Scalby Road.
“It’s approximately 22 miles and there are trophies in many categories to be competed for.
“It would be really great to have a few more team entries so get some work colleagues, a group of friends or family together to take up the challenge!
“Although it is a challenge walk it is a beautiful one with stunning scenery and there are loads of checkpoints with refreshments along the way.
“The short walk starts from The Hayburn Wyke and continues along the old railway line to also finish at the Crown Tavern.
“This one is approximates eight miles and many of our beneficiaries take part in this walk, some in wheelchairs, and in effect are helping to raise money for themselves.
“There are trophies to compete for such as youngest boy, youngest girl and highest sponsored individual even the biggest blister!”
Dogs are welcome and there are refreshments available for all throughout both walks.
Free transport is provided to the starting points of both walks - just indicate on the entry form that you require this and be at the Crown Tavern by the time shown depending on which walk you are taking part in.
When walkers arrive back at the Crown Tavern they are given a free pint and a hot dog, with a soft drink alternative if desired.
Jane said: “We do our best to make it a really good atmosphere for the walkers and family waiting to cheer them home.
“We have live music with the Hamps Street Band and The High Heeled Sneakers, plus EJ the DJ.
“There is a raffle with loads of great prizes up for grabs all provided by local businesses and we usually try to draw this around 4.30pm to 5pm.
“We are so grateful to local businesses who give donations towards the all the costs so that so we can ensure that every penny raised by walkers sponsor money is passed on to the beneficiaries.”
Entry and sponsor forms are available from the Crown Tavern or by calling Jane on 07999 839338, who can post you one out. Please remember to tick the Gift Aid box so walk organisers can increase the money raised at no additional cost to the sponsors.
