Charity plea for more donations

A CHARITY which supports older people is making a plea for donations to its charity shops.

Age UK, which has a shop in Newborough, has noticed a drop in donations following the recent bad weather.

A spokesman said: “The country has been hit by severe weather, which in total could cost Age UK an estimated £1.5 million or even more if the bad weather continues.

“Age UK relies on donations from the public to stock its shops and help fund its vital work, but many collection vans have been unable to go out due to the adverse weather conditions.

“In addition, many shops have had to shut and the ones that do open have seen much-reduced business and a decrease in people bringing in goods.”

The money raised from selling donations is used to campaign on issues affecting older people. Contact the Scarborough shop by calling (01723) 381791.
