Charity shops take on Spanish volunteers

Scarborough charity shops have received a helping hand from Spanish students as part of a recent visit.

Laura Pérez, Julia Irribaren and Patricia Cañibano, all age 16 and from Tenerife, have been learning English at Anglolang in Avenue Road.

The visit was organised by Cristina Daniel of C&T Speaking Experience, a Scarborough woman who has lived in Tenerife for over 40 years and brings students every year to Anglolang.

Cristina explained that because these girls have visited Scarborough a number of times now, they asked about doing something different, such as voluntary work.

Laura helped out at the RSPCA shop in Victoria Road, Julia was at SALT (Scarborough and Locals Together) and Patricia volunteered at St Catherine’s Hospice in Falsgrave Road.

Cristina said: “It was an amazing experience for the girls. They commented that all the other volunteers and managers they worked with were very kind.

“They had lots of contact too with the general public and therefore were practising their English and all felt that they were giving back a little of the warmth and kindness they have received over the years from both Anglolang and the people of Scarborough.”
