Christmas all boxed up

As the annual Shoe Box Appeal draws to a close this year, the students at Ebor Academy Filey have been working hard to give children in Azerbaijan some special gifts this Christmas.

The shoe box project is run by Samaritans Purse, a Christian charity with a mission to “demonstrate God’s love in a real way to needy children around the world”. Mrs Anne Kirkham the Filey area coordinator came into school to thank students for their efforts and laid down the challenge of increasing the number of shoe boxes from the Academy next year.

Teamwork has been the name of the game, with each tutor group working together to gather exciting gifts and basic personal care items, to create great gifts for those who will get very little this Christmas time. Mr Walton and the Year Eight Duke of Edinburgh preparation group used the appeal to practice their volunteering skills. These students really did go ‘the extra mile’ managing to produce five shoe boxes between them.
