Detectives investigating the disappearance and suspected murder of Claudia Lawrence are reviewing the findings of detailed enquiries in an alleyway behind her home on Heworth Road in York.
The Major Crime Unit operation was carried out yesterday and involved a full examination of the alleyway.
Specialist search officers, and police dogs supported the activity. House-to-house enquiries were also conducted in the local area.
Detective Superintendent Dai Malyn, head of North Yorkshire Police’s Major Crime Unit and the senior investigating officer in the Claudia Lawrence case, said: “The fresh search of the alleyway behind Claudia Lawrence’s home on Heworth Road was in respect of a new lead as part of our review into her disappearance and suspected murder.
“We still don’t know if Claudia left for work on the morning of Thursday 19th March 2009, or whether something happened overnight within her house. If the latter is the case the person or persons responsible, in my view, would have used the rear alleyway as the front door leads onto a busy main road. This is why this specific piece of information needs to be fully investigated.
“What I am able to say today is that although nothing of significance was found during the search of the alleyway behind Claudia’s house, the investigation team are still progressing this lead which may still be significant.
“We are now taking the necessary time to evaluate the information we did obtain yesterday from our enquiries including information obtained during house to house enquiries, and review how it fits together with other information that we are looking at in fine detail.”
This week’s operational activity occurred in the days before Claudia’s family are due to mark her 41st birthday on Friday 27 February.
