SCARBOROUGH’S Sub Aqua Club are going after a unique world record.

In July, four group members will attempt to cross the English channel on underwater sea scooters. The handheld devices propel users through the water.

No-one has ever attempted to cross the channel with a sea scooter before.

Four club members will attempt to cross the channel in two relay teams.

They will enter the water at Dover and travel to Cap Gris-Nez, France. Support will be provided by a 18-strong crew on a following boat.

Money raised through sponsorship will be split between Help for Heroes and the Scarborough Lifeboat.

The announcement of the attempt was made after the group won the British Sub Aqua Club branch of the year award in London at the weekend.

Club secretary Alana Parker said: “We are particularly proud to win this award in our club’s 50th anniversary year.”
