Coastguard team called out after fears over swimmer in sea near Whitby west pier
Whitby Coastguard Rescue Team found the swimmer near the West Pier shortly after 9.14pm.
They discovered he was not in any difficulty and was swimming back to shore but say they would rather be called out to check all is well than miss an emergency when they are needed.

Hide AdA spokesperson said: "Thankfully on this occasion our services were not required.
However, it is worth underlining that the caller did exactly the right thing.
"If you suspect someone is in trouble, knowing which service to call and doing so early saves lives.
"We would always rather be called out to check that all is well.
"Remember if you or someone you see is in trouble on the sea, shore or cliffs around our coastline call 999 and ask for the coastguard."
