Coffee morning for charity

Firefighters in Scarborough are hoping to raise as much cash as possible as part of a nationwide charity fundraising effort.

It will be held at the fire station, in North Marine Road on Friday, September 28, between 9am and noon.

Louise King, one of the organisers, said it was in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning and members of the public were welcome to turn up and help with the fundraising.

She also appealed for any donations of cakes, as well as tea and coffee – and they are hopibng to release balloons towards the end of the morning.

Last year at total of 51,000 people across the UK signed up to host a coffee morning and raised a record total of £10 million.

The event started in 1990, when a local fundraising committee decided to hold a coffee morning and donate to the charity.

• People who would like to make a donation or find out more should contact Louise at the station on (01723) 357790.
