Firefighters from Scarborough were called out to Cayton after a combine harvester was spotted to be on fire.
The alarm was raised at 5.50pm last night and two appliances were sent to Carr House Lane.
A North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the vehicle was in a “field of standing crop”.
Firefighters used two hose reels and two dry powder extinguishers to tackle the blaze.
The fire caused 100 per cent damage to the engine compartment and 25 per cent fire damage to the vehicle – the cause was an electrical fault.
