NOEL JAMES, who headlines tonight’s comedy bill at the Spa Suncourt, “stands out like a droll giant in a comedy land of trite dwarfs”, according to a review in the Independent.
Noel “liberates the lunatic side to our personalities – brilliantly,” reckons Time Out.
Apparently, the first words of his act are: “My name is Infact Noel James, although I never pronounce the Infact”.
Noel has performed comedy around the UK for eight years. He does it for a living and has performed at all the major clubs and festivals; Glastonbury, Reading, Edinburgh to name but three.
Before entering showbiz, Noel tried his hand at teaching. Without much success, he taught English as a foreign language: he taught it as Welsh.
Sharing tonight’s bill are Marvin Cheeseman, Hayley Ellis and Ste Porter.
Next week’s headliner, Tom Craine, is an award-winning stand-up comic, MC and writer.
At the Edinburgh Festival 2010, his second solo show, Choirboy to Addict and Back Again, was in the Times’ top 5 picks and received rave reviews.
The previous year, Tom successfully debuted his first solo show, Comfort Blanket, while simultaneously performing daily in the sell-out, critically acclaimed sketch group Superclump. He was described in the Guardian as “disgustingly talented”.
This followed the success of his appearance in 2008 on the bill of the sold-out AAA Stand Up Show.
Sharing next week’s bill are Piff the Magic Dragon and Nat Luurtsema.
The shows are due to start at 7pm.
