Contractors working on a major revamp at Sainsbury’s in Falsgrave have taken on an extra project to give something back to the community.
Barr Construction have been involved in some painting and decorating work, plus general maintenance at the community centre next to the supermarket.
Fiona Daplyn, of Sainsbury’s, explained: “The guys from Barr Construction have been helping out by painting the main hall and carrying out some electrical work.
“They try to help out a different local charity each time - last time they did some work at the Scout hut.
“It’s all about helping charities, groups or organisations with any odd jobs they might have. All the work is done for free as it’s about giving something back to the community.”
Barr Construction are also planning to do some work at Scarborough Mencap, based at Brookleigh in Valley Road, which has been voted in as Sainsbury’s ‘Charity of the Year’.
Barr are currently working on the £12m overhaul to Sainsbury’s flagship store in Falsgrave.
The firm is carrying out an extension and full refurbishment. Additions will include new flooring and ceilings as well as improved staff facilities.
