Appeal for witnesses after driver dies in crash

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man died in a road accident in Pickering.

At around 10am yesterday a silver Honda Accord collided with the wall of a driveway in Westgate, near the Sun Inn.

The driver of the vehicle, a 58-year-old local man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been confirmed.

The road was closed as officers conducted their investigations into the collision and to allow the vehicle to be recovered. It reopened at 1.50pm.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to get in touch.

Traffic Constable Ian Barratt, of Malton Roads Policing Group, said: “We are trying to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the collision and I am urging anyone with information to come forward.

“If you saw the incident itself or the vehicle prior to the collision, please contact the police with information.”
