A MAN matching the description of double murder suspect James Allen has been spotted in Scarborough - as police confirm he stayed in a hotel in the town during the week.
The 35-year-old, who is originally from Blackpool, was booked into the Allerton Croft Hotel in West Square for two nights but only stayed there on Wednesday night.
Earlier that day, 50-year-old Julie Davison was found dead in her flat on Church Square, Whitby.
A man matching Allen’s description was spotted in the Lord Rosebery Pub in Westborough on Wednesday afternoon, hours after her murder.
One man, who does not want to be named, said the man got into an argument with one of his friends at the pub.
He said: “It was definitely him, I saw it on the news and got in touch with my mate straight away. He was trying to get in touch with me at the same time to say the same thing.”
A spokesman for the pub, which is part of the Wetherspoon’s chain, said the regional crime squad would be viewing CCTV footage from the day in question.
Allen is also being sought in connection with the murder of Colin Dunford, 81, who was found at his home in Middlesbrough on Monday night.
Cleveland Police said Allen had lived next door to Mr Dunford about 12 months ago.
Allen is known to police and is currently on bail. They advised people not to approach him but to contact them immediately.
