Driver in court over man’s death

A SCARBOROUGH man has appeared in court charged with the death of an 89-year-old through careless driving.

Ian Huntley, 51, of Linden Road, is accused of causing the death of pensioner Raymond Fowler.

Huntley is alleged to have collided with Mr Fowler, a pedestrian, in his Vauxhall Astra on the junction of Newborough and Queen Street in August last year.

Huntley did not enter a plea during a brief hearing at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

His case was adjourned until March 16 when it will be committed to York Crown Court.

He was handed unconditional bail.

Mr Fowler was taken to hospital but died nine days after the incident.
