EIGHT people, including baby, in car with missing tyre stopped by police near Scarborough - and none wore a seatbelt
Police have revealed details of a shocking stop made near Scarborough during their seat belt awareness campaign.
The shocking incident occurred when officers stopped a small Volkswagen hatchback on the A64 near Scarborough in the early hours of Saturday morning, June 12, after hearing strange noises coming from the car's wheels.
The car was being driven on a 60mph road with one rear tyre missing.
Officers were certainly not expecting what they found next.
Stunned officers discovered that eight people were crammed into the small car, including a baby, two toddlers and a young child - one of the children was upside down in the rear footwell and none were wearing seat belts.
The car, which was in an unroadworthy condition, had one rear tyre missing with the remaining three all bald with metal cord exposed.
The driver did not have a licence and the car was uninsured.
The car's driver, a man in his 20s, was arrested and charged with dangerous driving, driving without a licence and driving without insurance - he will soon appear at Scarborough Magistrates' Court.
Police issued a prohibition order, preventing the car from being driven. The vehicle was taken away on a recovery truck.
It comes just weeks after officers stopped a car near Malton, from which NINE people emerged.
