A Filey woman is facing jail, after a judge placed her on the Sex Offenders Register after she admitted having sexual relations with a teenage girl.
A judge has warned Melissa Burton that she could be locked up for the sexual activity with the girl, who is aged under 16.
The 18-year-old, from West Road, pleaded guilty to five charges of sexual activity with a child at the York Crown Court hearing on Wednesday August 28.
Burton, who has no previous convictions, was warned by Recorder David Bradshaw to expect a custodial sentence for the “very serious” offences, which were committed between November 15 2012 and February 1 this year.
She was told that a pre-sentence report on her by the probation service should be prepared with a “possible” custodial sentence in mind.
Judge Bradshaw remanded Burton on custodial bail until the next hearing, which is scheduled for September 27.
She is expected to be sentenced at this hearing.
Burton is banned from contacting the complainant, or going within 100 yards of her school between 9am and 5pm.
She was told that she will have to sign the sex offenders register, the exact period of time she will remain on it to be decided at the sentence hearing later this month.
