Man admits hitting his partner after money row

A HUNMANBY man admitted assaulting his partner following a row about money.

Bradley Malcolm Harrison, 23, of Mitford Road, admitted the offence which took place on January 31.

The court heard how the couple were having money troubles as the defendant’s van had been impounded and he was unable to work.

Kathryn Reeve, prosecuting, explained that the couple had gone to the shop to buy bread and tobacco, with Harrison under the impression that his partner had some money.

She continued: “When they got home he hit her round the head and slapped her across the face three or four times.

“He then left the address, she let him back in and he hit her again.”

Miss Reeve added that the woman knocked a glass of Coke off the table, which made the defendant angry again.

She said: “He grabbed her by the hair and used her hair to rub the Coke stain.

“She also states that the defendant said he was going to run a bath and drown her in it.”

The defendant is then said to have shown remorse and said he was stressed due to ongoing family issues.

Shaun Greenan, mitigating, said that his client is a man of previous good character and asked for a full report to be prepared by probation services.

The matter was adjourned until February 29.
