The culprit assaulted the staff member of Sainsbury's on Stainsacre Lane after he was challenged for leaving with several bottles of spirits without paying.

The shop worker suffered a minor injury to his head.

The suspect is described as white, in his late 20s to early 30s, around 5ft 7ins tall and was wearing dark jogging trousers, a grey shellsuit-type jacket and a woollen hat.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident, at around 8.45pm on Tuesday, December 15, to call them on 101 and quote reference number 12200232859.
