Police are investigating after a man was assaulted, before his assailant chased him down a Scarborough street brandishing an eight inch kitchen knife.

Stunned drivers beeped their horns as the chaotic scenes unfolded in Ramshill Road on Monday night.

Police say the pair had been “fighting” near the Ramshill Hotel, when one of them men received a cut on his head.

The 21-year-old victim was then pursued down the road by the other man, who police say was carrying a “large” blade.

North Yorkshire Police say a 29-year-old man was arrested at the scene but has since been released on police bail as enquiries continue.

Detectives believe a number of motorists witnessed the incident at 8.30pm, due to the number of horns that were beeped.
