Man injured after gang cemetery attack

A man has been injured after he was assaulted by a gang at a Scarborough cemetery.

Scarborough police are appealing for information following the assault, which happened at the graveyard in Manor Road.

He was punched in the face, after two men grabbed hold of him by the throat during the assault.

The man managed to flee the scene, escaping with a black eye and bruising to his face.

The attack occurred at around 6.10pm on Wednesday 4 September, but has only just come to light.

Police are now hunting the culprits, and PC Alasdair McNeill, of Scarborough Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “Thankfully the victim was not seriously hurt as a result of this assault.

“However, it did leave him shaken.

“If you witnessed the incident or can identify the men responsible, I urge you to contact the police straight away.”
