Man’s body found in town centre flat

SCARBOROUGH Police have confirmed that the body of a man has been discovered at a town centre property.

Police arrived at flats above the former Talbot Hotel in Queen Street at around 11am yesterday, after reports that a body had been discovered.

The Evening News was on the scene at the same time, and eventually a small crowd gathered outside Boyes to look on as officers made their way into the former pub.

Local residents and business owners also crowded round shop windows to watch the police arrive.

One shop worker said that they had not seen nor heard anything suspicious at the flats yesterday morning.

Yesterday afternoon, police confirmed that the body was that of an unnamed man, who police believe is 46.

Scarborough Police have said that they are not treating the death as suspicious.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “Police were called around 10:35am on Wednesday 9 May 2012, following the report that a man had been found dead at an address on Queen Street.

“When officers arrived they found the body of man believed to be aged 46.

“An investigation to establish the cause of death has not begun on behalf of the coroner.

“However, there is nothing to suggest that there are any suspicious circumstances at this stage.”

The coroner said that more information is likely to be disclosed today.
